On Thursday night, The New York Giants fell to their seventh straight loss against division rivals Dallas Cowboys. The 15-20 loss marked the third loss in the current season for the ‘Big Blue’ after failures against the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders earlier in the season.
The New York Giants have been moving in a slump for the past ten seasons. They had losing records on eight different occasions with just playoff berths – in 2016 and 2022. The Giants finished with a 6-11 record in 2023 and have been continuing to show the same results this year too.
However, Brian Daboll, their current HC, who coached them to the Divisional Playoffs in 2022 is confident despite this disappointing season. The 49-year-old Canadian from Ontario noted that the Big Blue has made progress and improvements since the season started. The statement does little for a starved franchise despite it being true.
The Giants have improved. The first game against the Vikings was met with humiliation to the point where the starting QB had his jersey immolated. Since then, Daniel Jones has been locked in and showing results in terms of throws and passes, impressing many. The Giants’ rookie Malik Nabers has been praised as he rises to lead the Giants’ offense. However, The Giants’ point margin is currently 15.0, a point 6 decline from where they finished last year.
Daboll spoke during a press conference where he acknowledged that the results have been showing up on the field. He noted that there’s no losing mentality settling over the team as of now. He further pointed out that his mentality is every week brings new and unique challenges and it is a long season – anything can happen.
Maybe, the improvement the Giants need is from Brian Daboll
The Cowboys game showed an average of 16.2 million viewers that Brian Daboll’s old moxie is a thing of the past. The key reason for the 2022 playoff run with a team which 4-13 in the previous season was because of the risky yet rewarding plays called by Daboll.
The Giants could have caused an upset over the Dallas Cowboys. The margin for the victory was barely -6 for the Big Blue. It could have been a pivotal moment in the 100th-year season of the Giants by starting a run with a winning streak.
Ex-giants player Chris Canty noted that Brian Daboll has been inconsistent in his decision-making and should not expect to be back next year. Canty had some unfavorable words while he described Daboll’s position to be soon vacant, looking for people to fill in.
