It’s no secret that there’s always massive interest surrounding the Dallas Cowboys games, especially when they are on a losing streak. That was the case for Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones when they played against divisional rivals the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime—both on 1-2.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the game saw an average of 16.22 million views, which marked an all-time high for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. Fans tuned in to see the Giants drubbing because Prescott had won 12 straight games against the NFC East team in his NFL career.

It was far from a one-sided affair. Cowboys Nation had their hearts in their mouths after Brandon Aubrey missed his first-ever 50+ yard field goal in the league. The Giants failed to capitalize on it, and the Cowboys secured a 20-15 win.

Schefter further revealed that the average viewership peaked at 18.1 million during the 9:15 to 9:30 p.m. ET window. This was a 20% jump from the previous best, a week 4 Thursday night game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers.

ESPN revealed that there has been a steady increase in average viewership in 2023 compared to the previous years. It only proves the popularity of the NFL is at an all-time high, while some will point to the fact that the presence of Taylor Swift might have played a part in it.

Dak Prescott claims the win over the New York Giants will help with the Cowboys winning momentum

Even though the Cowboys, as a team, looked average at best, Prescott delivered from his end. The veteran quarterback threw 2 touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 134.10. He has only lost two games against the Cowboys’ bitter rivals since entering the league.

In Prescott’s view, the win at MetLife Stadium was crucial, raising the confidence level of his teammates.

Huge. Huge. Huge. Especially when you compare it to the alternative, what that would have been like. It was huge.

Dak Prescott said as per the Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Prescott further defended his team, pointing his finger at the media. He advised the reporters to critique the young players more moderately than they usually do. The win provides the Cowboys a slight breather, and because they played on Thursday, they get an extended break to recover from the fatigue.

[The win over the Giants will] just allow to build momentum. Played on a bunch of different teams, and some that when you got going, it just gets hot. That’s what we’re looking to do.

Prescott added.

The Cowboys need the rest because it’s not going to be easy from here on out. Next week they will face the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
