The Jacksonville Jaguars have been quite in the news lately and apparently it’s nothing related to their preparation and strategies for the upcoming 2024 season. The headlines surround their quarterback, Trevor Lawrence– who they enlisted among the top three highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
The Jaguars extended Lawrence with a mammoth $275 million extension deal for five-year however it appears that still isn’t enough for him. In a recent press conference, Lawrence bizarrely claimed that he took a pay cut and still is underpaid, claiming he prefers having a team in a good position more than earning the highest-paid deal.
Obviously there was a certain amount that as a player you want to make and you want to be in the market value, all those things.--It wasn’t worth it to me to sacrifice, you know, being able to have a good team just so I can make some money.Trevor Lawrence said
Although the quarterback’s statement mainly focused on his team rather than his mammoth contract, fans immensely trolled him on social media. They mainly called him out for suggesting that he took a pay cut so that his franchise could add competitive players to the team and claiming they have a large salary cap now.
Trevor Lawrence grateful for stability and long-term commitment with Jaguars
While talking about his contract, the Jaguars quarterback also appreciated his contract, highlighting how it provided him the security for long-term, which he needed to remain with the franchise, which he now calls his home. He also expressed his gratitude to the franchise for offering the extension.
I'm blessed and thankful for the financial aspect of it, but what's even more important to me is the stability it brings. To know that I'll be here for several years, possibly seven or more, is a huge deal.Trevor Lawrence said
Moreover, he asserted that the team is going in the right direction now, where he believes he can bring a championship to them. Lawrence assured that his new extension hasn’t made any difference in his preparation and he remains composed with the intense responsibilities that come with the position of starting quarterback, as he always was.
