Come September 20, WWE will debut on ESPN’s DTC streaming service as part of their $1.6 billion agreement on a five-year basis. The show titled Wrestlepalooza will emanate from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. And guess what? Cody Rhodes was confirmed to be there. It was announced by Paul “Triple H” Levesque during his appearance on this week’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show.
That got the entire crew excited as they started singing their own version of Rhodes’ theme song. Tyrese Haliburton was also in the studio. Circling back to Rhodes’ impending return to the ring, the WWE CCO didn’t reveal whether the WWE Champion would have a match at the PLE or not. The fans haven’t seen Rhodes since Drew McIntyre decimated him exactly a month ago on SmackDown.
It was quite the way to write the former AEW EVP off WWE television for a while so that he could head over to Australia for filming the Street Fighter live-action movie. He’s slated to wrap up his part by the day of Wrestlepalooza. ‘The American Nightmare’ will likely fly back to the US, crossing several time zones, which precisely puts the US capital 14 hours behind the Australian capital city of Canberra.

As such, the only thing that remains to be seen is if Rhodes makes it back to WWE programming this week itself. If he were to have a title defense a week from this Saturday, the company would need him to be there on the remaining episodes of SmackDown. The QB1’s rumored opponent, McIntyre, is scheduled for a singles match with Randy Orton this Friday. Can Rhodes catch the Scot off guard? He very well could.
What else has been announced for Wrestlepalooza?
Wrestlepalooza will mark the beginning of WWE’s unprecedented synergy with ESPN. As noted by Paul “Triple H” Levesque during Pat McAfee‘s show, it all came together very quickly. ‘The Game’ revealed that those at ESPN wanted to hold a mega show to kick off their partnership rather sumptuously.

Levesque was asked to hand them a date, and once they secured the city of Indianapolis as the host, it was bound to have an ode to ECW. This is how the name Wrestlepalooza came into existence in 1995. The upcoming WWE premium live event is a stacked affair. John Cena will renew his rivalry with Brock Lesnar in their first singles match since 2014.

"There was a lot of thought, but it was in a brief period of time, so we sort of were under the gun. As soon as we heard that Indy was on the table and they got the date open, we were in.

Also, as seen on this week’s Raw, The Usos have reunited, and they’re slated to take on Bron Breakker and “Big” Bronson Reed. That’s not completely it, as Wrestlepalooza will bore witness to AJ Lee‘s first WWE match in over a decade. She will join forces with her husband, CM Punk, as the two of them are in for a fight against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team bout.
Triple H iterates that Iyo Sky vs. Stephanie Vaquer is on for Wrestlepalooza
General Manager Adam Pearce announced on last week’s Raw that Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer will take the center stage at Wrestlepalooza for the vacant women’s world title. They were supposed to sign the contract on Raw this past Monday night. However, during a backstage interaction with Sky, the Raw GM informed her about Vaquer’s unavailability for the show.

It sparked a sense of cynicism among the netizens about whether the title match was still on. Triple H has finally cleared the air around it, as he mentioned on air during Pat McAfee’s show that Sky vs. Vaquer will indeed take place at Wrestlepalooza. ‘The Cerebral Assassin’, however, avoided giving a concrete answer to why the scheduled contract signing between those women was taken off.

Hunter also confirmed that he wasn’t backstage for Raw, as he was recording an episode for Tony Hinchcliffe‘s Kill Tony podcast. Also, any speculation regarding Vaquer’s whereabouts was quelled when she showed up on NXT last night alongside Rhea Ripley and Tiffany Stratton to combat Fatal Influence.
