Tsitsipas is coming into the second round of the French Open by beating world number 60, Jeremy Chardy in straight sets with the score line of 7-6, 6-3, 6-1. It was a shaky start from the young gun as he had to save a set point in the first set against the Frenchman. Otherwise, the world number 5 has been in good form recently as he was the last man standing in the Monte Carlo Masters. After winning in Monte Carlo, the world number 5 was the runner up in the ATP 500 event in Barcelona. He lost to Rafael Nadal in three sets with the score line of 4-6, 7-6, 5-7. He would be looking to make a deep run in this year’s French Open like the last year. Tsitsipas made it to the semi finals of the French Open and ultimately lost to Novak Djokovic in a 5 set thriller with the score line of 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1.
Martínez is coming into the second round by beating world number 50, Sebastian Korda in straight sets with the score line of 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. The Spaniard was heading into the first round as an underdog as Korda’s ranking was much superior to him. The world number 103 has been a regular in ATP circuit but has not been able to make a mark lately. Interestingly, Martínez performed well in the Australian Open as he reached the third round. His dream run was finally ended by Dusan Lajovic as he had defeated him with the score line of 7-6, 5-7, 1-6, 4-6. He would be hoping to perform well in the French Open like the last year where he made it to the third round.
