The Indian women hockey team created history, as they reached the semifinals for the first time in the history of the Olympics. They have had a roller coaster ride, as they reached the semifinals at Tokyo Olympics after a fantastic fight and big upset against hot favourites Australia. A goal from Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur was the only goal of the match, and India won 1-0.
A valiant fight lay ahead of India, as they went up against Argentina in the semifinals. India went down after a tough fight, as they lost 2-1, but hopes were still alive as the Indian women would face off against Great Britain in the bronze medal match. The final match for the Indian women hockey team was the most important one, as they played their heart out. Unfortunately, it was not India’s day, as they lost the fight 3-4.
Nevertheless it was a fantastic Olympics for India, as the women’s team made the semifinals for the first time in history, and the men’s team took home a bronze medal in what is seen as a new era for hockey. The women’s team was greatly praised for their courageous performance.
