Miami Dolphins have sunk to the bottom of the AFC North with a disappointing 1-3 season record this season. Heading into week 4, the team, particularly star wide receiver Tyreek Hill had expressed high confidence in Tyler Huntley however, it ended up backfiring with a 31-12 defeat against the Tennessee Titans.
Ever since Tua Tagovailoa sustained a concussion in week 2, the quarterback position in the Miami Dolphins has been unstable. His backup, Skylar Thompson came in week 3 but enlisted in the injury reserve the same night due to a rib injury. They named the recently acquired Huntley, who served the past four years as a backup to the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, the starter for week 4 but his performance was notably underwhelming.
Prior to the game, Hill– who’s fulfilling the absence of the locker room leader, was asked about his preference for the starting position. By speaking highly of Huntley and describing him as ‘special’, the star receiver applauded the choice of head coach Mike McDaniel.
The eight-time Pro Bowler also appreciated Huntley for investing long hours in the firm room to learn the new offense, especially a complex scheme such as in Miami.
Dolphins struggle offensively under quarterback Tyler Huntley
Unfortunately, the Dolphins appeared absolutely out of sync under Huntley’s leadership. He couldn’t even record 100 yards in the tough game against the Titans by finishing 14 out of his 22 passes for 96 yards, while the Dolphins were penalized five times for illegal shifts, including three penalties during a single drive.
The Dolphins’ defense allowed the Titans to record 244 yards, however, their offense finished the game with 187 yards which is the lowest output since Tagovailoa’s first career start. Huntley also struggled to connect with receiver Hill, who was open on plays that could have resulted in significant touchdowns but the quarterback missed him both times.
The NFL Cheetah, as well, failed to make an impact and finished the game with four catches for 23 yards. The Dolphins are now preparing for a game in Massachusetts, against the New England Patriots, who are in a similar 1-3 situation as Miami, in week 5.
