Tyreek Hill struggled against the Titans, managing only a few catches as the Dolphins dropped their third straight game.

Tyreek Hill had plans to break his last season’s receiving yards total, but at the pace his team, the Miami Dolphins, is moving, his goal will remain a dream. The Dolphins sit on 1-3 after four weeks and are slowly drifting away from playing post-season football.

The center of the Dolphins conundrum is the quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa is in rehab, while Skylar Thompson was dropped after just one half of football for aging Tim Boyle. Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley was brought in from Baltimore, but he hasn’t played competitive ball in a while.

It showed on Monday night when the Dolphins played fellow strugglers, 0-3 Tennessee Titans. After three-quarters of football at Hard Rock Stadium, kicker Nick Folk scored more points than receivers caught combined passes. Tyreek Hill most of the night played more as a halfback instead of a wideout, carrying the ball from the backfield.

The All-Pro athlete ran and ran as much as he could, but the Titans’ defense stood firm and only allowed him 42 all-purpose yards and a drop.

With just under 6 minutes left until the final whistler, the ESPN camera pointed to the Dolphins dugout and spotted Hill yelling at his team while head coach Mike McDaniel stared into oblivion, pretending to ignore the Cheetah’s words. The game ended with a 31-12 win for the Titans.

Later, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald before the post-game presser tried to get a word from Tyreek Hill, but apparently he had already left the building.

McDaniel addressed the poor display, highlighting this is a first for him.

You can’t argue that the offense is good. I hadn’t really been in a situation where we hadn’t had production consecutively like this so you really have to open your mind to all things.

Tyreek Hill hasn’t had a great start to the 2024 season

When the Dolphins won their first game of the current season, their fans dreamt of a repeat of last season’s early form. However, they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have not won a game since December 2023. Moreover, Tua played in the game and week 2 when he hit his head.

Hill’s descent in form is a troubling sign for the Dolphins. If the quarterback play doesn’t improve, then it will be too late to save the season. Hill, so far in four games, has 17 receptions for 217 yards and 1 touchdown.

Last year he recorded 215 yards in opening week alone, and by the end of week 4, he had 4 touchdowns to his name.

Whether Huntley is the answer, only time can give that answer. He looked out of touch, and if the Dolphins view him as their starter going forward, then he needs to learn the playbook fast. Up next, they travel to Boston to face rival New England Patriots.
