Tyson ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury is gearing up for his undisputed clash against Oleksandr ‘The Cat’ Usyk, which is set to happen on May 18. As usual, the undefeated WBC heavyweight champion’s confidence seems to be on cloud nine. However, after his humbling experience against Francis ‘The Predator’ Ngannou, this should have changed. Ironically, even after his close split decision victory, Fury is still cocky as ever and is making the same claims that he did ahead of the Ngannou fight.

The Predator’s professional debut was against Fury back in October 2023. At the time, the WBC heavyweight champion appeared to be overconfident and even arguably underestimated his opponent. Ahead of the fight, he claimed he could defeat Ngannou after drinking 25 pints of beer. Fury was hit with a reality check during his actual fight, but somehow, he is making the same claim again with Usyk:

I think if I didn't train at all for this camp and came in at 25 stone and sank 15 pints of Peroni beforehand, then the next day go in there … What's he going to do?

The topic initially started when Fury was bashing Anthony Joshua for losing against Usyk twice. Furthermore, the Gypsy King boldly proclaimed that ‘The Cat’ couldn’t do anything to him. He reiterated this point by suggesting that he would win even if he didn’t train.

As such, Tyson Fury stated that if he were to do that, what would Usyk do except jib and jab. The Gypsy King further dismissed Usyk’s skills by bringing up the fight against Derek Chisora. In addition, Fury called that fight a 50/50 even though Usyk won via unanimous decision.

Fans react to Tyson Fury’s comments

Fury’s bold proclamation that he could defeat Usyk without training enraged quite a few fans. His proclamation was not uncommon since, almost ahead of every significant fight, Fury has made a similar comment.

Fans pointed out that Fury made the same bold claim before fighting Ngannou and later struggled. Subsequently, fans predicted that Fury would suffer a similar fate against Usyk. Furthermore, fans called The Gypsy King boring and asked him to prove himself inside the ring. However, Usyk believes Fury will be different and is staying vigilant for his performance on May 18.
