Tyson Fury is all geared up to unify his WBC title against WBA, IBF, and WBO champ Oleksandr Usyk. The British boxer had a press conference with Queensberry Promotions to promote the upcoming fight. One particular aspect of Fury’s comment shocked the boxing world. The comments indicated Fury’s respect for the former undisputed cruiserweight champion.
Fury had to pull out of the February 17 undisputed showdown due to a cut. He was sparring with MMA fighter Argon Smakici at the time. Despite the postponement, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has upheld the card’s value and even defended Fury from ducking accusations. Even Usyk has remained understanding of the situation; now, the Englishman returned the favor.
He [was] undisputed cruiserweight champion, he’s unified heavyweight champion... so anyone would have to respect the man’s achievements...Good fighter, so I’ve got a tough challenge in front of me, but I’m very confident in my ability and I’m very confident I’ll beat the guy. Please don’t say that Oleksandr Usyk is sh*t after I beat him...Tyson Fury at the Fury vs. Usyk “Ring of Fire” Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promo pre-fight conference
Fury (34-0-1, 24 KO) insisted that the unbeaten Oleksandr Usyk‘s size would play a great deal in their title clash. The Ukrainian was the only cruiserweight titleholder of the modern 4-belt era before he moved on to heavyweight. However, the British heavyweight thinks when one makes such moves, they are “left wanting” and are accordingly primed for the ordeal, which he will utilize to the full extent.
Despite revealing his cornerman as father John Fury (as usual), he will continue to have Sugarhill Steward in his corner. John will operate at the backroom staff capacity while preparing for the matchup. Morecambe FC’s stadium press conference this Wednesday also saw many other topics coming up. The undisputed title fight promises a historic showdown. Only time will tell who will emerge on the right side of history.
Turki Alalshikh praises English pro boxers as some of the best in the world
Tyson Fury has edged one step closer to facing Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed showdown in hopes of unifying their straps. The Englishman’s WBC title gold and Usyk’s WBA (Super), IBF/WBO/IBO, and ‘The Ring‘ heavyweight titles are at stake for the bout. This Wednesday [10th] saw Morecambe FC’s stadium hosted a pre-fight press conference. Fury touched roots on a lot of topics.
This included Usyk himself as a potent rival despite some backhanded compliments of him not matching up to heavyweight size. Fury even addressed the topic of heavyweight KO artist Anthony Joshua. If Tyson Fury pulls out, while there is a mandatory bracket of a $10 million fine, Usyk can choose his next opponent. However, with Usyk pulling out, Turki Alalshikh wants Fury to face Joshua next.
Such are the conditions because the General Authority for Entertainment (GEA) chairman has high hopes that the Brit’s match will come to fruition. Another interesting thing during the conference was His Excellency calling up and lauding English pugilists. Check out the footage below.
Turki Alalshikh has long voiced his liking for Fury. Recently, he even doubled down on the merits of the May 18th Fury vs. Usyk undercard. In no shortage of terms, Fury also lauds His Excellency’s efforts to bolster combat sports culture within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He even says there’d be no global boxing without Turki Alalshikh’s proactive indulgence. “Ring of Fire,” “Knockout Chaos,” and even “Day of Reckoning” are some price examples of such global boxing cards.
