“I didn’t have a healthy weight cut, and now I want the trilogy” Deiveson Figueiredo blames a bad weight cut for his loss at UFC 263
Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno
The former UFC Flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo lost his title in a rematch against Brandon Moreno at the co-main event of UFC 263. Moreno defeated Figueiredo by a third-round submission and claimed the Flyweight division throne.
This match took place to settle down their first fight which ended as a draw on UFC 256 and this time Brandon Moreno left the Octagon with a win in his column and Flyweight title around his waist.
After losing the title, Figueiredo blamed a really bad weight cut for this loss. He was really struggling to make the weight and even in the weigh-ins, Deiveson Figueiredo stepped on the scale in the last 40 seconds.
In his latest interview with Combate, ‘Daico’ says, “It really was the weight cut. I didn’t have a healthy weight cut, it was really hard to beat the weight, I left the hotel feeling very bad. I knew it wasn’t my day, but I gave it into God’s hands, and going to the Octagon I said, ‘Lord, your will be done.’”
“I got in there, I didn’t really fight like I am and I really want to immediately ask for a rematch with Dana (White), and I hope get it because I won the first fight and even so they took a point from me and they decided to tie for the second fight.” {H/T MMA Mania}
Deiveson Figueiredo added, “And now I want the trilogy. He got my belt, the first one I won and we’re going to fight this third fight now to take the fight off.”
Moreno also talks about Deiveson Figueiredo’s weight cut after winning the title
‘The Assassin Baby’ Brandon Moreno accomplished his childhood dream of winning the UFC Flyweight title at UFC 263. In the post-fight press conference, Moreno too talked about Figueiredo’s weight cut,
Moreno says, “We need to be honest, he cuts too much weight, I think it’s unnecessary. This sport is so hard because you cut weight because you want some advantage in the fight,”
“You want to feel stronger, you want to feel with more energy than your opponent, but we saw the ‘Embedded’ (preview video), Figueiredo crying after making weight. Very dramatic, in the last minute of the time. I think it’s unnecessary, but obviously it’s not my decision, it’s the decision of his team and him.”
Now, the ball is in Brandon Moreno’s court will he offer the trilogy to Deiveson Figueiredo or will he move to other challenges in the division, it is going to be interesting to see.
