Demian Maia is one of the UFC veterans, who is considered as one of the most elite grapplers in UFC history. He has been a part of the promotion since 2007 and during his UFC career, he fought two times for the UFC title.

Maia first challenged the UFC legend, Anderson Silva for his Middleweight title at UFC 112. At the end of five rounds, Maia lost this fight by the unanimous decision of the judges. Then he challenged the former UFC Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley for his Welterweight title at UFC 214.
