“Let’s see who really is the better fighter when we go out here,” Dan Hooker doubles down his call for a five-round fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 267
Dan Hooker and Islam Makhachev
The number 6th ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Dan Hooker is booked to face the number 5th ranked Lightweight fighter, Islam Makhachev at the main card of UFC 267. This fight helped Hooker to gain a lot of new fans as he agreed to fight Makhachev on one month’s notice only after Rafael Dos Anjos is ruled out from this fight due to an injury.
Along with this Dan Hooker recently secured a victory against Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266 and still, he recently called out Islam Makhachev to make this round a five-rounder for UFC 267. Talking about this in his latest interview with Submission Radio, when Hooker was asked about the reason behind this fight to be called five rounds, he says,
“Let’s do it I just feel good man and I got a couple of really hard weeks getting back into the swing of things and by now I mean getting the rounds where your body feels aspiring and getting into wrestling every day and resting every second day.”
“I grind it for a couple of weeks and then last week just I felt come on man, it felt good, fitness was there, wrestling was there and you know wrestling for 45 minutes straight and feeling good and I was feeling sharp and technically with everything there I feel like a five rounder that’s you know after finishing one of those hard sessions I felt like a five rounder and if we can make it happen I’m 100% in, let’s make it five round.”
In the same interview, Dan Hooker was asked that Makhachev claimed he didn’t want to inflict pain to ‘The Hangman’ for five rounds, only three rounds in enough for him. Talking about the same he added, “I felt this match is a co-main domain so let’s do the justice and make it a five-round war. Let’s see who really is the better fighter when we go out here,”
“That’s a yes and that sounds good to me, that’s him calling my bluff and me going all in that’s me back in my hand and I’m going all in, If that’s his response then let’s do it what’s the hold-up, let’s make it five round.”
Dan Hooker doesn’t believe in trash talk before the fight
Islam Makhachev is entering into this fight with an eight-fight win streak and he is the protégé of former UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. There is a lot of hype build-up for this fight from Khabib’s side and he believes Hooker won’t be having any answers for Makhachev’s wrestling.
But Dan Hooker doesn’t believe in all this trash talk he only believes in leaving the ling with hand raised. Hooker added, “That’s like one thing I’ve never understood, like fighters trash-talking their opponents, in that aspect if you got a real problem with the other guy or you’re trying to pick a fight with someone I can understand like saying some nasty things for trying to pick fights but when fights are booked and you’re saying like what Islam was saying to Dos Anjos and he was saying he’s old, he’s washed up and he’s not got it anymore.”
“It doesn’t make any sense for me and I don’t want to fight someone because I think I can beat them easily. That makes me completely not wanna fight someone, I want to fight someone because they are dangerous and people are saying he is better than you, I want to fight against best fighters in the world that’s my mentality.”
