Henry Cejudo left the sport almost a year and a half ago but “The Messanger” never leaves to keep an eye on the divisions he ruled for quite some time. The former two-division UFC champion asserted that he is excited for the co-main event more than the main event of UFC 267, held on October 30, 2021, at Etihad Arena, Fight Island, Abu Dhabi. The main event involves the light-heavyweight title fight between Glover Teixeira and current champion Jan Blachowicz.

The co-main event of UFC 267, the one Cejudo is most looking forward to, is a clash for interim UFC bantamweight title fight between former champion Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen. Both the fighters are coming off a loss and hence are presumably highly ambitious enough to get back to the winning track.

Petr Yan was disqualified for throwing an illegal knee at current champion Aljamain Sterling that cost him his belt. Whereas Sandhagen came off a decision loss to former UFC champ TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw is not advised to fight for now following the injuries he sustained in the Sandhagen fight.

Cejudo feels this matchup is much better than Yan’s matchup with TJ Dillashaw. He said it on his podcast alongside sports journalist Dave “The Schmo” Schmulensen titled “The Triple C & Schmo show”

“The fight with Petr Yan vs Cory [Sandhagen] is a lot better than Petr Yan vs TJ,” Cejudo asserted. “The only reason why is because you’re gonna nullify the wrestling and stuff that TJ is gonna bring and it’s gonna end right here, on its feet,” he continued.

“I believe Cory Sandhagen is bliss I think he is a lot more dangerous than TJ is, and considering Petr [Yan’s] striking, his ability to maybe even surprise him with some takedowns. It’s gonna be an interesting fight and for that reason, I’ve to go with none other than the bantamweight, Petr Yan and [Cory] Sandhagen (over the main event).”

As far as TJ Dillashaw is considered in the title conversation, Cejudo thinks that the former two-time bantamweight champion might have to get another win on his record before he fights for the belt for the long layoff Dillashaw is taking because of his surgery. Cejudo suggests the winner of Frankie Edgar vs Pedro Munhoz as the next opponent for Dillashaw.

What do you think about Cejudo’s take on the co-main event? Do you ever miss him in the bantamweight division, or even in the flyweight division for that matters? Because we know for sure that Cejudo wants to come back, at the featherweight division though. Just a few weeks ago, the Olympic gold medalist called out the current UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski for a fight, for the reason it could potentially make him the first man to hold UFC titles in three weight classes.
