Ian Garry has pulled out from UFC 296 against Vicente Luque. Undefeated in his professional career, Garry garnered online controversy due to his marriage to his much older wife. The pull-out from UFC 296 will certainly put Ian Garry again in the crosshairs of social media trolls.

Garry has fought six times in the UFC, with finishes in half of the fights. The UFC signed him after he won the Cage Warriors welterweight championship. Since his debut at UFC 268, Garry’s outspoken persona has come at odds with many in the MMA community.

The MMA community highly anticipated the bout between Garry and Luque as they were former training partners. They trained together at Kill Cliff FC. Many fighters do not see Garry eye to eye due to his outspoken persona. However, Luque is not one of them.

UFC 296 is a stacked PPV card. Even after Garry vs Luque is off the card, the PPV still has not lost any shine. Nevertheless, the fight cancelation disappointed the MMA fans. The majority of the MMA community looked forward to seeing Luque knockout Garry.

UFC CEO Dana White announced the fight cancelation on social media. The reason for the cancelation was Pneumonia. Garry had flu when he came to the US from Brazil. Unfortunately, the flu turned to Pneumonia. He had his fight camp at the Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil. Moreover, Garry has plans to obtain a Brazilian passport as his wife is half-Brazilian.

The fight cancellation did not go well in the MMA community. Many found this an opportunity to bash Garry further. Some trolled Garry for using the opportunity to escape from the UFC 296 press conference. UFC 296 press conference will feature Colby Covington, Paddy Pimblett, and Leon Edwards. All three have animosity towards Garry.

What was the controversy surrounding Ian Garry’s marriage with his wife?

Ian Garry was and still is a hot topic of debate for things outside of fighting. He first comes at odds with the MMA community with his trash-talking against Neil Magny. However, after he came at odds with controversial YouTube MMA analysts Red Pill MMA and MMA Guru, he lost all his fans. Red Pill MMA and MMA Guru dug up his relationship with his wife.

His wife, Layla Anna-Lee, is 14 years older than he is. Moreover, she has a kid with her ex-husband, Richard Cullen. Surprisingly, the ex-husband is the Performance Nutriontinst of Ian Garry. Furthermore, Anna-Lee’s 2012 audiobook, How to Be a WAG, was controversial. Rumors speculated that the book was a hand guide for golddiggers. Moreover, other rumors also spread of Cullen living with Garry and his wife.

However, Garry and his wife clarified that the book was satire and Cullen did not live with them. Garry also came at odds with Sean Strickland, who advised him of his relationship. He threatened to sue Strickland for defamation. Strickland leaked Garry’s messages on his social media, and the MMA community hated Garry’s threats to Strickland.

What was the controversy surrounding his gym and sparring incidents?

Before the controversy began, Team Renegade BJJ & MMA, where Leon Edwards trains, kicked him out. Garry called it an insecure move from Edwards and his coach. However, Edwards clarified that it was due to Garry not accommodating gym culture as he brought his family and cameras into the gym.

In light of the controversy, Paddy Pimblett said Leon Edwards had already knocked out Garry in sparring. However, Edwards clarified in an interview with Damon Martin of MMA Fighting that he did not knock out Garry but rocked him with a head kick.

Moreover, many fighters came forward and discussed a sparring incident where a UFC fighter from Kill Cliff FC knocked out Garry. Brendan Allen and Vicente Luque confirmed the incident but refused to name the fighters. Speculations are that the fighter is an undefeated welterweight with a 100% finish rate, Shavkat Rakhmonov.
