“UFC ain’t top dog no more”- Kevin Lee issues a bold statement ahead of his Eagle FC debut
Kevin Lee
Kevin Lee is all set to headline Eagle FC 46 against Diego Sanchez. Lee had a long career with the UFC, but after going 1-4 in his last 5 fights, he was released from the organization. Lee’s release came rather unexpectedly, and there were many controversies regarding this decision.
Lee claimed his losing streak wasn’t the driving force behind his release, it was rather dirty politics. Khabib Nurmagomedov saw this as an opportunity, and he immediately joined Lee for his organization, Eagle FC. He was very happy with the decision, and he promised his fans, that he would grab the championship belt with both hands, and he’ll prove to be the most dominant champion this world has ever seen.
Lee discussed his release during his appearance on The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast, he said, “There is still a bit of confusion to me a little bit about what exactly is going on. There’s a lot of politics that goes into this s***. So that part, it’s still some figuring out that needs to be done but as far as ill will, there’s zero. There’s zero ill will on my end towards the UFC. I feel like if anything, it came at the right time. It may not have been the time that I saw or would have wanted but ultimately, it just came at the right time.”
“It kind of sucks being famous but not being rich”- Kevin Lee names the major drawback of being a UFC fighter
Lee has no ill will towards UFC, and he praised them for giving him all the necessary attention in the world. “We can’t take away too much from the UFC – they do a great job of promoting but it kind of sucks being famous but not being rich,” Lee explained. “That’s not really the goal. This is America. We value the dollar more than anything. Be rich first and then be famous.”
Lee added, “When I’m giving advice to young fighters on what they should do and where they should be, I tell them the UFC ain’t top dog no more. Maybe in terms of promotion but if you just want people to know who you are, you can do a whole lot more s*** than this. If you’re in it to provide for your family and do some other stuff, there’s some more options out there.”
