Alexander Volkanovski vs Chan Sung Jung booked for UFC 273

After going through a long list of title contenders, UFC has finally booked Chan Sung Jung to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title at UFC 273.

The featherweight champion finally has a challenge in The Korean Zombie. Pay-per-view event UFC 273 will be headlined by the stunning fight between Alexander Volkanovski vs Chan Sung Jung. The fight is scheduled to take place on April 9 and the location is yet to be announced from the promotion.

What was initially going to be a much-anticipated trilogy fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, is now going to be a battle of two veterans. Max Holloway, the former featherweight champion pulled out of this fight due to an injury that has now paved the way for the MMA veteran Sung Jung. The first report about this fight was made by MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on Twitter.

The UFC did not have an easy job at their hand to find a replacement as a handful of fighters were in contention for the title spot. To make things much harder, retired two-division champion Henry Cejudo was also a consideration for this fight. Chan Sung Jung will finally have his rightful shot at the title after going 3-1 in his last four fights only losing to Brian Ortega, the most recent title contender.

The rise of the Australian champion has been an exciting one to watch. “The Great” has a record of 23-1-0 in his entire professional career. The fighter has not lost a single fight in his entire UFC run. Alex became the champion against one of the featherweights ever, Max Holloway. Since then he has gone on to defend his title twice which includes a win over Holloway and one over Brian Ortega at UFC 266.

Along with the featherweight title contention, UFC 273 will feature the bantamweight title unifier between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. The two fighters are set to take their feud to the octagon in the co-main event. Yan and Sterling’s rematch has been long due since the Russian awarded his belt to the “Funkmaster” via an illegal knee.
