MMA Legend and middleweight great Anderson Silva is set for a third boxing bout in his newfound love of combat after dominating the sport of MMA in the UFC for almost one-and-a-half decades. Silva, the longest reigning middleweight champion in UFC history with the record for second-most title defences in champions’ history as well, last fought exhibition bout in boxing against former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz whom Silva knocked out early in the first round.
On his resume based on his time in mixed martial arts, Silva has defeated the likes of Rich Franklin (twice), Stephan Bonnar, Chris Leben, Chael Sonnen (twice), Vitor Belfort, Forest Griffin, Dan Henderson, Nate Marquardt, Thales Leites, Demian Maia, and many more. Silva last fought inside the octagon when he lost to Uriah Hall via TKO in round 4 back in October of 2020, thus ending his career with only one victory since 2013, the year when it was the sad beginning of the end of the era of ‘The Spider’ Silva.
Floyd Mayweather to join Anderson Silva in Global Titan Fight Series
Silva is however doing amazing in his career as a boxer so far and is 2-0 with significant wins over boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and MMA legend Tito Ortiz. Silva will now return to the boxing ring on May 14 of this year to fight against fellow Brazilian countryman and MMA fighter Bruno Machado in an 8-round bout. The news was first reported by TMZ Sports.
The event where Silva will box is known as Global Titan Fight Series and he is not the only legend fighting on the card. Undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather will return to continue his own experiment in exhibition matches as well when he will fight another undefeated former boxer in ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore.
Speaking of Silva’s opponent, Machado is a pro-MMA fighter with a record of 13-9 and last fought in January 2021 riding on a 6 fight winning streak at UAE Warriors promotion. What do you make of Anderson Silva fighting another younger opponent [after Chavez Jr.] like Bruno Machado in his boxing career? Who do you think wins this boxing bout? If passion has a size, Silva probably has the biggest passion for combat sports amongst the legends that are way past their prime in the sport of MMA.
