“Fight the guy that lost his last fight,” Cody Garbrandt’s callout of Sean O’Malley confuses Chael Sonnen as he doesn’t see both fighting

“Fight the guy that lost his last fight,” Cody Garbrandt’s callout of Sean O’Malley confuses Chael Sonnen as he doesn’t see both fighting

Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt shared more heat with fellow bantamweight Sean O’Malley than his then opponent at UFC 269, Kai Kara France who was scheduled for his flyweight debut. Perhaps this bad blood with O’Malley without a fight with him can be attributed as the reason for Garbrandt losing his fight against France via first-round knockout.

However, no one can be sure of what was going on in Garbrandt’s mind that fight night, but for him to decide to stay at 125 for another and also decide to fight O’Malley, who by the way won his fight via first-round KO against Raulian Paiva, seems pretty bizarre to hear, until and unless Garbrandt proves his point. Fans and pros across the world ponder on the same thought of what’s next for Garbrandt and for how long he keeps losing the fight before he either comes out as a resurrected fighter or retires from the sport.

Chael Sonnen thinks perhaps Cody Garbrandt is “delusional” to not fall for the basic rules of matchmaking

MMA Legend Chael Sonnen makes case for Garbrandt’s situation in one of his videos on his Youtube Channel where he too thinks and makes possibilities of Garbrandt’s future as a UFC fighter.

“If Cody is delusional to think he is going to get a big, huge, mega match with Sean O’Malley coming off a loss when Sean’s coming off a win then perhaps Cody doesn’t fall policies in the history of the sport which says in large part if you lost your last fight, you take on a guy that lost his last fight. [Similarly] if you won your last fight you take on a guy that won his last fight. Not to mention, the weight class issues,” explains Sonnen.

“Cody went to 125, looked pretty good and said that I liked it which would lead me to believe he’s going to stay at 125. But then he’s calling out Sean O’Malley, I mean listen, I don’t think Cody has to be perfectly clear, he’s likely frustrated, he is a human being... let’s see where it all goes,” concludes Sonnen.

Do you think Sonnen has a point before Garbrandt gets any more excited about fighting Sean O’Malley? Who do you think wins between them if the fight happens in an unexpected scenario? Where do you see Garbrandt’s career steering in 2022?
