Chael Sonnen highlights how Khamzat Chimaev and Shavkat Rakhmonov are in a similar position in the UFC
Chael Sonnen compares Khamzat Chimaev and Shavkat Rokhmonov
Khamzat Chimaev is undoubtedly one of the most hyped fighters in the UFC. The fighter from Sweden is crowned as the favorite to be the next champion. Another fighter that shows a lot of similarities to “Borz” in the octagon is Shavkat Rokhmonov. Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen talks about the two welterweights and highlights their similarities.
Khamzat Chimaev has everything that takes to be a UFC superstar. The fighter is absolutely unstoppable inside the octagon and also has his way with the microphone. One of the main things that pull fans to watch Chimaev’s fights is his undefeated career. The fighter is 10-0 and has finished every opponent he has ever faced in the octagon.
Another fighter that is undefeated is Shavkat Rokhmonov, the Kazakhstani fighter has a record of 15-0 in his career but is yet to get the same hype as Chimaev in the UFC. Chael points out what might separate the two in terms of achieving fame in the recent video on his YouTube channel.
“This dude has 15 fights, I get it is not in the UFC but three of them were in the UFC and he has stopped absolutely everybody and it is hard for him to get a headline,” said Chael in his video.

Chael explains what Shavkat can do to get a similar reach as Khamzat Chimaev among fans
According to Sonnen, despite Shavkat having an amazing record, one of the main drawbacks is that the Kazhakstani has not fought anyone that is popular. In his UFC career, Rakhmonov has fought three times and only Alex Pereira is a fighter that is known among most fans. Shavkat choked out Pereira in the very first round.
Unlike Shavkat, Khamzat has been paired against the likes of John Phillips, Gerald Meerschaert, and Li Jingliang. Chimaev’s skills on the mic have also helped the fighter gain attention. Chimaev will be taking on Gilbert Burns in what could be a potential title contender fight at UFC 273. Meanwhile, Chael believes Shavkat pairing against Neil Magny could really put a lot of eyes on the 15-0 fighter.
