Former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has decided to move down a weight class and take on former #1 contender Lauren Murphy. Miesha is coming off a loss in the bantamweight division against Ketlen Vieira. While many would suggest a move up a weight class is the ideal move, Tate has decided to drop down to 125.

Chael Sonnen believes this move could potentially end up good for Tate as a win could bump her a title shot against the “Bullet” Valentina Shevchenko. Sonnen sees Tate turning out to be a real test for the amazing Valentina. In his recent YouTube video, Chael previews Miesha’s move to the 125 division for title opportunities.

“That match is a problem,” says Chael on Miesha Tate vs Valentina Shevchenko

“That match is a problem. Miesha’s on top, her wrestling, her ability to slip punches get inside, and create some other kind of action is a problem for anyone,” said Chael. “There is nobody that should be happy about this than ‘The Bullet’ because she is cleaning out the division. It is something to look forward too.”

Chael believes Valentina has not faced a serious contender that could test her in a long time. Shevchenko has not lost a single fight in the flyweight division in UFC. The fighter is coming off two title defenses in 2021. Chael believes Miesha moving down a weight class could make things spicy in the division. “If you’re the Bullet then you go to the gym a little bit motivated. With that little bit of fear you haven’t felt in five years,” said Chael.

Miesha returned to the UFC in 2021 after a long layoff. Tate is 1-1 since her return losing to Ketlen Vieira by decision in a tough scrap at UFC Vegas 43. Do you think Miesha could make her way into a title shot in the flyweight division?
