“For me, it’s not a secret”- Ciryl Gane clarifies why he revealed his UFC 265 pay
Ciryl Gane
Ciryl Gane is one of the hottest properties in the UFC right now. The Frenchman defeated Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 265 at his own backyard, Houston, to win the interim heavyweight title. He also set up a future championship clash against the dangerous Francis Ngannou, who was once his sparring partner.
Speaking to L’Equipe a couple of days ago, following his title win, Gane disclosed his UFC 265 pay. He divulged that he received $350,000 as base pay for his victory, besides a Performance of the Night Bonus of $50,000 and UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance Payout of $32,000.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, in his MMA HOUR show, Ciryl Gane revealed why he disclosed his UFC 265 payout. ‘Bon Gamin’ stated that “it was not a big deal for him” and it has never been a secret. He also clarified that he had not revealed the same because he was not satisfied with the pay.
“I can talk about that” – Ciryl Gane on his UFC 265 fight purse
Gane was quoted as saying, “For me, it’s not a secret. The people want to know how much I had for the bonus, everybody can know that. So for me, it’s not a secret. I’m not like French people [who say] I don’t want to talk about my money. That’s OK. I can talk about that.” [via MMA Fighting]
He continued, “But I saw in the media a lot of people put this [in] the headline because the people think I’m not happy about that. No, I’m OK with that. You have a tax like with every job, and you have a team that spends a lot of time with you. My coach was [away] from his daughter for one month for me. So that’s normal to bring that for my team. So everything is correct. After that, the dollar with the Euro, yes, but it’s a game, and that’s OK. I just started three years ago, so no worries. This is the beginning of my career.” [via MMA Fighting]
If Gane manages to beat Ngannou, he would receive a massive paycheck that is at least 5 folds than the UFC 265 one. He does have a really good chance to make big bank when he faces the Cameroonian. This will be Ngannou’s biggest technical test, since Gane brings a holistic approach to the game. He moves like a middleweight, coupled with some impeccable striking.
