“Maybe the end of this year” – Ciryl Gane ready to fight Francis Ngannou by the end of this year

Ciryl Gane and Francis Ngannou

Ciryl Gane is one of the hottest properties in the UFC right now. The Frenchman clinched the interim heavyweight title in the main event of the recently concluded UFC 265. He beat Derrick Lewis via. knockout in the third round to set up a showdown with the dangerous Francis Ngannou.

Speaking in an interview with BJPENN.com’s Cole Shelton, Ciryl Gane said that he would be needing rest for a bit before going out all guns blazing against Francis Ngannou. He also expressed his desire to fight the Cameroonian by the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2022.

Gane was quoted as saying, “I’m going to rest a little bit because I started to prepare for camp in July of last year. Since then, I have continued every week to prepare a new fight, just fight-after-fight-after-fight. I just want to rest a little bit and I have my wife due soon with my daughter. It complicates training camp a little bit but maybe the end of this year or the beginning of 2022. If it’s possible in France as well.” [via MMA Mania]

Gane and Ngannou have trained several times, back when all was good between MMA Factory and Ngannou. Following a rift with coach Fernand Lopez, who established the MMA Factory, Ngannou has never returned to that place. Gane will be the most technical heavyweight he would have ever faced, and Ngannou will be wary of that.

‘The Predator’ is coming off a victory over Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 260. He won the heavyweight championship that night, meaning he hasn’t defended it even once. Gane, on the other hand, will be hoping that his dream run continues when he takes on his former teammate.
