Iowa Central Community College boasts several top athletes in the list of its alumni. Two of the most well-known MMA athletes, Jon Jones and Colby Covington are also among them and even part of the college wrestling team.
During an appearance on The Jim and Sam Show, Colby Covington recalled his college days and spoke about Jon Jones. Colby revealed that he shared a room with Jones for two years and were great buddies. Furthermore, he spoke about Jones’s steroid use during his college days.
Me and Jon lived together, 2 years in Iowa Central Community College together…he just started doing steroids …he just freaking always had roid-rage. He'd just come home and he'd yell at me, 'oh what the f**k are you doing Colby? Do the dishes!' And he would just like literally freak out and I'd see this roid-rage in his eyes and I was like, 'dude, what's your deal man?Colby Covington on The Jim and Sam Show
Colby claims that Jones even turned to performance-enhancing medications to help him put on weight so he could compete in the Heavyweight division. In addition, Jones used to consume drugs heavily and party during his college years. Despite this, Jones was able to capture an NJCAA national title while attending Iowa Central Community College. He afterward enrolled in the criminal law program at Morrisville State College.
Jon Jones denied his friendship with Colby Covington
Colby Covington has repeatedly asserted that he had a close relationship with Jon Jones. Yet Jon Jones has consistently denied publicly sharing a bond with Colby. At a press conference before UFC 245, where Colby Covington lost the welterweight belt to Kamaru Usman, Jon Jones mentioned Colby.
Jones revealed, “Colby’s a habitual liar at the end of the day. He really is. He told the fans that we lived together for two years. We lived together for one semester. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and a lot of people don’t consider me a good person, but coming from me, Colby’s a really bad person. He really is. He really, really is.”
The two seem to have different recollections of the time they spent living together at Iowa Central Community College. However, Jones did make it clear about this distaste for Colby Covington. This comes as no surprise considering Colby Covington is one of the most despised MMA fighters.
