Colby Covington on Khamzat Chimaev

Colby Covington is truly immersed in his heel character, he criticizes almost every fighter whenever he gets the chance, now he has taken his shots at Khamzat Chimaev, he called him a “complete joke.”

Chimaev is 9-0 on his professional record and is riding the hype train by winning three fights in a span of just 66 days, he was supposed to face Leon Edwards before suffering from Covid-19, UFC has built enough hype for him but Covington isn’t having it.

Talking to James Lynch, Covington criticized Chimaev and said he isn’t surprised that he hasn’t fought any ranked opponent yet, he said, “I’ve never even heard of him. Does this guy have a ranked win yet? Oh, he doesn’t. Everybody’s hyping these kids up these days.”

“They were just hyping up journeyman street Judas Masvidal like he was this world beater and he’s gonna baptize people. We just saw what happened to him, he was unconscious in the Octagon.”

Covington feels like the UFC is now booking fights based on hype, he said, “That’s the state and age of the UFC. It’s all about hype. There’s no credibility — I wouldn’t say there’s no credibility, UFC is a great organization — but the way people get the hype on them is just a complete joke. Go out there and show it with your resume.”

He continued, “Look at my resume. Multiple UFC champions on it that I’ve beaten. When a guy decides to beat multiple UFC champions and beats the best guys in the world, then come holler at me, and I’ll hit you down a step.”
