Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal

The title rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington for the welterweight title just went down at the main event of UFC 268. This fight went exactly as advertised, and after a grueling five-rounded battle, the champion Kamaru Usman secured the unanimous decision victory.

Now that Covington is 0-2 against the champ, a trilogy match doesn’t exactly make any sense, Covington is still one of the best welterweights on the roster, and he is looking for a way to get back in the title picture. With so many possible fights on the line, he was asked about his preference, he said he would like to fight his former teammate and “BMF” titleholder, Jorge Masvidal.

Talking to MMA Junkie during the post-fight conference, he said, “I’ll fight whoever it takes to get back. I think the most logical step is the heated rivalry with me and my old roommate ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal. He should probably pull out of that fight with Leon Scott and we should just run it. Let’s run it in the first quarter of the first part of the year and let’s do it. That’s a heated rivalry, man. He talked so much sh*t in the media and said so many things about me.”

Covington added, “Look what happened when he fought ‘Marty.’ He got dusted. If he fought me, he’d get dusted even worse and it wouldn’t even be competitive. So I just want to hold these people accountable for the way they run their mouth in the media. It makes sense. If he goes ahead with that Leon Scott fight, then Hunter Campbell, I just pray to you. Please, God, don’t cut him after that third loss in a row. Keep him around and let me be the one who ends his career.”
