Dan Hooker to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 267 as per Dana White
Dan Hooker and Islam Makhachev
Dan Hooker has agreed to another fight, hardly a week after a dog fight at UFC 266. This time a massive one, against Islam Makhachev at UFC 267. Makhachev was initially set to face Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 267, but the Brazilian pulled out citing injury, and the top-ranked lightweight Makhachev was left without an opponent.
The news of Dan Hooker stepping into face Islam Makhachev was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, who had learned the same from UFC President Dana White. Okamoto also went on to praise Hooker for his grit and determination to fight in just a month’s time, after facing a massive hardship ahead of UFC 266.
Dan Hooker will be wary of Islam Makhachev being undefeated since 2015
Brett Okamoto tweeted: “DAN HOOKER (@danthehangman) is stepping in to face Islam Makhachev (@MAKHACHEVMMA) at UFC 267 in one month, per Dana White (@danawhite). Just fought at UFC 266, on a week he had to fly from New Zealand to Vegas two days before the fight. What a savage, this guy.“
Hooker beat Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266 in the preliminary card. The fight went the distance, and Hooker emerged the clear winner via. unanimous decision. By beating the German, Hooker got back to winning ways after being hit with a two-fight skid for the first time in his career.
Makhachev, on the other hand, has not lost since 2015 – his only loss in his whole career. He is on an eight-fight winning streak and is coming off a submission win over Thiago Moises in July 2019. The win helped Makhachev break into the top 5 of the lightweight rankings.
