“If you don’t beat up your wife, family events will be more enjoyable,” Dan Hooker snaps back at Jon Jones’ attempt to demean his fight career
Dan Hooker- Jon Jones
UFC lightweight and up and coming to featherweight Dan Hooker is about to invite bad blood against someone out of the competition league, yet right within Hooker’s judgement frame. Hooker was last seen into the action at UFC 267 when he was submitted by Islam Makahchev within the first round. Since then, Hooker has plans to drop down to featherweight where he feels he has certain advantages he hasn’t utilised yet.
It was not long ago when MMA Legend Chael Sonnen was detained for quite some time and was charged with citations for battering 5 individuals in the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas. This brought the MMA world to deliver mixed reactions and Sonnen’s foe Jon Jones had the appropriate set of words prepared to react to the former’s situation. Jones last fought defending his light-heavyweight title in UFC 247 against Dominick Reyes, now he has set his eyes on 2022 to make debut in the heavyweight division.
It was right after this set of tweets that Brendan Schaub, podcaster and former UFC heavyweight detailed the incidents that led to Sonnen’s arrest. From Schaub’s statements which were believed to be sourced from his conversation with Sonnen as he claimed, it was cleared that Sonnen was defending his wife against a man who was passing lewd comments to body shame Sonnen’s wife and therefore had Sonnen infuriated.
Dan Hooker jumped in to troll Jon Jones, gets in a back and forth with the latter
Dan Hooker then reacted to one of the news reports that transcribed Schaub’s statements and tweeted trolling Jon Jones’ “Imagine beating up 5 people and not one of them is your wife. (JJones RN [inserts mind blown emoji])” Hooker is obviously referring to Jones’ arrest back in September for domestic violence with the victim being his wife, the arrest happened the night of his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame. On his way to arrest, Jones’ also damaged the police car while headbutting it on his way into the vehicle.
Jones was relatively quick enough to attend to Hooker’s mischievous tweet and said “@danthehangman, every opportunity you’ve had to make a name for yourself and be closer to your boy Izzy, you dropped the ball. You can’t achieve greatness, so you hop online and attack someone who has. Sounds about right” Jones’ compared Hooker to his teammate Israel Adesanya who’s UFC’s middleweight champion. Jones’ sort of demeaned Hooker’s fighting career for the latter never fought for the title.
Hooker saw that he is bound to give Jones’ the attention since he was tagged in the tweet and hence retweeted it with his own quote saying “Life hack: if you don’t beat up your wife, family events will be more enjoyable. Merry Xmas bitch.”
Hooker then also went back to Jones’ tweet to comment below “I was triggered by your disingenuous attempt to bring attention to Chael’s situation. He was arrested for defending his wife, you were arrested for assaulting yours. [inserts apple and orange emoji]” Hooker is basically telling Jones’ not to compare Sonnen’s bad times to his own as both those times were produced differently.
This was an unforeseen Twitter beef considering the fact that many people judge Jones for his September arrest to this day, but he decided to give Hooker the necessary attention. What do you make of this exchange between Dan Hooker and Jon Jones? Do you think it was Jones’ way of luring Hooker’s aforementioned teammate Israel Adesanya into fighting him in the future since both Jones and Adesanya have a beef as well?
