“I don’t think he should fight,” Dana White insists UFC superstar Nick Diaz to not step into the octagon again

“I don’t think he should fight,” Dana White insists UFC superstar Nick Diaz to not step into the octagon again

Dana White on Nick Diaz

As much as we all appreciated UFC superstar Nick Diaz returning to the octagon in 2021, UFC president Dana White believes it is best if the veteran stays off from fighting.

2021 was a great year for MMA fans and part of what made this year special was the long-awaited return of UFC legend Nick Diaz to the octagon. UFC 266 pay-per-view card gave the fans what they wanted and hosted a fight between the Stockton fighter and his former rival Robbie Lawler. However, the fight did not live up to its hype for many fans including UFC President Dana White.

Robbie Lawler got his revenge after 17 years by beating Diaz via TKO in the third round. The fighter from Stockton was clearly disinterested in the build-up to the fight and seemed like he was forced to fight. White in a recent interview with Brett Okamoto from ESPN spoke about Diaz’s comeback in 2021 and gave his thoughts on another fight.

“Very impressed,” said Dana on the performance of Diaz in his fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 266. “But, regardless of how good he looked and what he did after such a huge layoff, I don’t think he should fight.”

Nick has a professional record of 26-10-0 in his entire career and stopped fighting in the year 2015 owing to a suspension. His return in 2021 was hyped but the fight sure did disappoint a lot of MMA fans. Prior to the referee calling off the fight, Lawler actually insisted Diaz stand up and fight but “Diablo” gave up. All these just confirmed the thought that Nick is not in love with the sport anymore.

“I don’t think Nick does it cause he loves it, I think Nick does it cause he has to do it…When I always talk about people sitting bumper to bumper traffic and go to a job they hate, that’s what I feel like when Nick is getting ready for a fight,” said White on why he believes Nick shouldn’t fight anymore.
