“I’m still fighting the top,” Darren Till aiming at a matchup with Sean Strickland
Darren Till wants a top middleweight
Despite his bad run in the UFC off late, Darren Till is not afraid to fight a top middleweight in his next fight. The Liverpool fighter wants a top middleweight fighter and Sean Strickland is on the list of choices.
Darren Till has undeterred confidence. The Liverpool fighter is one of the fan-favorite fighters and has put on a show ever since he stepped into the octagon. The fighter recently has not been in the best of form but is looking to bounce back with a win against a top middleweight fighter. The welterweight turned middleweight has not had the best run in the new weight class.
All of Darren’s losses have come against the top-ranked middleweights. His last two losses have been against former champion Robert Whittaker against whom he lost via a very close decision and another against Derek Brunson who submitted him in the third round. The fighter’s last win was against former title contender Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244.
Darren recently went on the “Believe You Me” podcast hosted by his fellow countryman, Michael Bisping. The scouser spoke about his confidence and his recent setbacks. The fighter is not fazed by his losses but only uses it as fuel for his next step forward. “I enjoy the setbacks and this is another setback, but I don’t ever want to have another setback in me MMA career again,” said Till on the Believe You Me podcast.
Darren Till names his favorites for the next fight
Till is currently ranked at #9 in the middleweight rankings. The fighter is only looking to scrap with fighters higher than him in rankings and the UFC also seems okay with it. “The UFC said to me, ‘Darren we are with you and we know what your potential is and we really love you’. I said ‘of course.’ They asked me who do I want to fight and I said Jared Cannonier is a good one,” said Till talking to Michael Bisping.
Jared Cannonier is not an option anymore as he is fighting Derek Brunson in a title eliminator at UFC 270. “They were a few options they threw out to me. One fight I really liked was Sean Strickland.” Sean was originally scheduled to fight the former champion, Luke Rockhold, at the amazing UFC 268 card but the fight was called out due to Rockhold’s injury.
Darren is open to fighting Sean Strickland and also talked to his rival about the potential fight. Sean is ranked at #7 and a win against him can see Till climbing up the rankings. Despite his setbacks, Till will fight a top fighter. “I’m still fighting the top and that’s how it is,” said ‘The Gorilla’ on Bisping’s podcast.
