Derek Brunson responds to Paulo Costa
Derek Brunson did not appreciate fellow middleweight Paulo Costa‘s call-out and trolled the fighter for not belonging in the same division anymore.
Paulo Costa was a laughing stock last year when he failed to make weight against his rival Marvin Vettori in a main event fight. Despite the Italian agreeing to fight in a heavier weight class, Costa turned out to still fail his weight cut. In a recent series of tweets, the fighter has been calling out his peers for a showdown in the octagon.
After looking for a fight against top contender Sean Strickland, Costa decided to shift his focus towards Brunson. In his call out he wrote, “Now it’s time to Derek Brunson runway or accept. Sean gave up. Brunson?” Despite being in the same rankings, Brunson believes he needs some time off before he could get back into the octagon.
That won’t stop Brunson from trolling Costa for turning out to be overweight in his last fight. “Focus on your own weight class,” wrote Derek trolling Costa. “You’re a heavyweight. I tried to fight you multiple times. [You] disappeared until I got a fight.”

“I’m working on my craft” Derek Brunson replies to Paulo Costa
“I’m not fighting soon, I’m working on my craft . I’m waiting on your 2nd heavyweight fight . Paulo Pasta,” wrote Brunson trolling Costa. Derek is yet to decide who he wants to take on for his next fight. The top-ranked fighter is coming off a devastating loss against soon-to-be title contender Jared Cannonier at UFC 271.
Meanwhile, Paulo on the other hand is trying to earn himself a title shot and fight his rivals at the top of the rankings. Costa is currently 13-2 in his professional career. Since his title fight defeat against Israel Adesanya in 2020, Costa has fought only once.
