Dustin Poirier defends himself on the sparring video released by Colby Covington
Dustin Poirier and Colby Covington
Colby Covington doesn’t shy away from talking trash about anyone in the UFC, recently he talked about Dustin Poirier, he claimed that he has a video of Poirier where he knocked out a guy in the sparring and shouted “AND NEW!”
Covington claimed that Dustin is not the nice guy he pretends to be, now he has actually released the video, he posted this on his Twitter, and wrote, “The guy wearing full nerf gear head to toe to protect his face and his feelings is Poirier. The guy with no headgear, wrestling credentials or brain cells left is “khabib.” @DustinPoirier Good guy? Bad guy? You be the judge #AndNew #UFC264”
After this many fighters came to Poirier’s defense, and Poirier himself justified that the guy he was sparring with was a professional fighter with over 20 professional bouts, he appeared on an interview with Farah Hannon of UFC Arabia, where he said, “I didn’t want people to think that was an amateur kid or something like that. That was a professional fighter. I mean, that’s what happens in gyms during hard sparring, real sparring. There’s times when you drill, and train, and stuff like that, but there’s times where you hard spar and that was a hard sparring session.”
Colby Covington predicts the result of trilogy match between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier
Covington believes that he can beat both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, but now that they are fighting each other, he made a prediction about their fight at UFC 264, said, “If Conor can make the adjustments, if he can stay out of the way of the calf kicks. I see that as his path to victory. I think he is a hard puncher and he is a little bit more fluent on his feet.”
He added, “But, we’ll have to see which Conor shows up, is it the motivated Conor of the past, or the guy that has got a lot of money in his bank account, and there is no drive and fire in him anymore.”
However, Colby concluded, “If I have to bet on it, I’ll try and pick Dustin Poirier. I think he is a little bit better in his prime… You know, he is still slightly hungry.”
