Dustin continued the answer by saying, “He took some heavy shots, I knew he was hurt multiple times, and every time the bell rang, he answered it. He came out ready to scrap and I’m thankful for it because I learned a lot in that fight.” Dustin and Max met for the first time in 2012 at the featherweight division where Poirier won the fight via submission at UFC 143. The second time the two elite fighters met was at UFC 236 when they fought for the interim lightweight belt.

Poirier won the fight via unanimous decision as the judges scored the card 49-46. Though in terms of skill Dustin and Max aren’t too far apart, Poirier had the advantage of size over Holloway. He was simply bigger and better than the Hawai fighter that night. Would you like to see a trilogy between Poirier and Holloway in the future?
