Giga Chikadze might have found the biggest opponent he has ever faced in his career in Edson Barboza. The two featherweight fighters will likely fight in the main event of UFC’s August 28th event.
UFC is looking to finalize Giga Chikadze and Edson Barboza for the headliner fight for next month’s event. The two featherweights will feature in the main event fight on August 28. The promotion is yet to announce the location of the fight. But judging from how comfortable UFC has been in hosting the fight night events at the UFC Apex, Las Vegas it wouldn’t be a reach to say the fight could take place there.
The official announcement was first made by ESPN. They were the first to report about this matchup. Chikadze has been craving for a fight for a long time and he is finally found one in UFC veteran Barboza. The UFC has finally given Giga the main event fight he deserves.
Can Edson Barboza make it three wins in a row?
MMA veteran Edson Barboza is coming off a two-fight winning streak. The Brazilian will look to make it three in a row with his upcoming main event fight against Chikadze. His last two wins have come against Shane Burgos and Makwan Amirkhani. His last bout against Burgos was one of the most bizarre wins as Burgos was hit cleanly by Edson but he reacted late and fell to the floor.
Meanwhile, Barboza’s opponent Giga is coming off an 8-fight winning streak under the promotion’s banner. Ever since his loss in Dana White’s contender series, the fighter has not lost one single fight. His last opponent was Cub Swanson and Chikadze just rolled past him. He secured a first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night: Reyes vs. Prochazka in the co-main event.
