“He asked for one thing”- Chael Sonnen reveals why Georges St-Pierre got a title shot after a lengthy layoff while Henry Cejudo was snubbed

Henry Cejudo has been a hot topic for a week or so as he sparked rumors of a comeback to take on Aleksandar Volkanovski for the featherweight title.
Dana White, however, has no interest in giving Cejudo his chance and he said that ‘Triple C’ even asking for a potential title bout at 145 lbs is “silly“.
“So, I should’ve jumped over everybody and gave it to him because all of a sudden last week he decided he isn’t retired? Come on, man. This is a f***ing silly conversation. Silly,” said the UFC President to reporters at the post-fight press conference of UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Chikadze.
Cejudo hit back by citing former champs Conor McGregor and Georges St-Pierre as reasons saying that they were allowed to take up a title fight after years of inactivity with McGregor facing Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title after two years at the sidelines and St-Pierre facing Michael Bisping for the middleweight title after four years of inactivity.
“GSP didn’t defend himself, Conor McGregor didn’t defend his featherweight or his title, his lightweight belt. I defended my bantamweight championship against three future Hall-of-Famers.”
With Cejudo now not being able to make a comeback for a title fight, Chael Sonnen spoke about the issue of Cejudo not being given the opportunity that GSP and McGregor did on his YouTube channel saying, “George St-Pierre was on top. Biggest draw and cooperative for 15 years. For 15 years of complete cooperation, he asked one thing and yes he got it.“
Chael Sonnen voices his opinion on why Georges St-Pierre was given a title shot and why Henry Cejudo wasn’t?
Chael Sonnen on his latest episode of ‘Beyond the Fight‘ decided to address the issue of Henry Cejudo being cast aside from the list of contenders for the featherweight belt.
He spoke in length about how Cejudo single-handedly shone a spotlight and saved the bantamweight division from being abolished and went on to say, “Henry did everything great.”
He then spoke about the problem at hand and why GSP was given a shot while Cejudo wasn’t.
“Henry attempted when he did not get his way, to compare himself to George St-Pierre. The comparison being, ‘Hey Dana. I was a champ champ. George was able to retire and return right to a title shot and in a weight class that he had never been in before. Why can’t I? Well, let me answer the question for you. George St-Pierre was on top. Biggest draw and cooperative for 15 years. For 15 years of complete cooperation, he asked one thing and yes he got it.”
Sonnen went on to say that Cejudo was well on his way to having his title shot but the fact that he retired and stopped early and didn’t build on his legacy is the reason why he isn’t getting an opportunity now.
