“He’s for that nervous energy”- Dan Hooker offers insight into Israel Adesanya’s mindset going into Robert Whittaker rematch
Dan Hooker(L), Israel Adesanya(R)
Dan Hooker says Israel Adesanya is in a good place at the moment for his rematch against Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 and the entire camp has been lively with good energy according to the Kiwi and who are we to say we disagree.
Looking at Adesanya‘s recent interviews and his own vlogs and videos into his training camp, you notice the amount of dedication he’s put and you know he’s not walking into this fight underestimating ‘The Reaper’ in the slightest.
Hooker who fights out of City Kickboxing, the same camp as the UFC middleweight champion is in regular touch with his teammates and was asked about how Adesanya has been looking ahead of his title defense.
“No, he’s good. He’s good. Now he’s definitely in a good place from you know, the interactions that I’ve had with him. He’s definitely um – yeah I guess like with a rematch especially the way that the first fight went you can kind of, not necessarily underestimate your opponent but you can yeah like take it a little bit lightly because you know if you put on such a dominant performance like that it might be hard to to get up for the training but he’s not like that.”
“Like he said to me, this morning he said ‘You know I’m – I’m nervous’. It’s good you know like he’s got like that nervous energy which you need and which some fighters do miss when they’re coming up for a rematch like that. So, it’s good. He’s definitely in a good place.”
Dan Hooker will fight Arnold Allen in his return to the featherweight division
Dan Hooker will be facing No. 7 ranked Arnold Allen at UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs Aspinall in his return to the featherweight division after more than five years.
With Hooker currently at a 21-11 record will be facing a tough opponent in Allen who will have the crowd backing him as UFC is set to host this event in London.
Having lost three of his last four fights, it proves to be a tough bout, and considering that it’s been a long time since he’s fought in the 145-pound division and also that he will be facing a fighter with only one professional loss in his MMA career, the Kiwi will have to be at his best if he has any chance of taking the win home.
Hooker told ESPN, “I understand it was difficult times [at lightweight], I wasn’t creating any kind of excuse or anything like that, it’s just the reality of the situation that I’ve lost to three of the top five lightweights.”
“So I make, in my opinion, a very easy weight cut and fight down a weight class, and then you’re one fight away from being back in the mix and back in title contention. That’s why I’m doing it, because it excites me.”
