“I can get my fans their money back,” Derrick Lewis on why he wants to fight former champion Stipe Miocic
Derrick Lewis wants Stipe Miocic next
Derrick Lewis takes great joy in being an underdog heading into his fights and the “Black Beast” believes a matchup with former champion Stipe Miocic will make that happen.
It does not take too much for the fighter from Houston to get over a devastating loss. Derrick is coming off a stunning victory against the promising Chris Daukaus at UFC Vegas 45 at the final fight of 2021. Lewis went on to secure a KO win to recover from his hard loss against current interim champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 265.
Derrick Lewis spoke to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani on the recent episode of MMA Hour about who he wants to fight next. The Black Beast did not have an easy time losing in a very horrible fashion in front of his home crowd in Houston rooting for him to become the interim heavyweight champion. However, a recent win against Daukaus seems to have helped him get over the loss and look forward to his career.
Lewis in his career in UFC has fought almost everyone in the current Top-10 rankings in the heavyweight division. Stipe Miocic is one fighter that Lewis wants to check out from that list next. “I feel like I don’t have to prove anything and that’s one of the reasons why I want to fight Stipe next,” said Lewis to Helwani. “I believe that would be a great matchup for the fans and for both of us. It would be a great entertaining fight.”
Derrick Lewis has a point to prove to his haters
One of the main reasons why Derrick wants to fight Miocic is because he feels obliged to return to his fans. Lewis fought in front of a packed arena in Houston, his hometown, where his fans were rooting for him but the loss really disappointed him and the fans. “I’d be a heavy underdog in this fight. I can get my fans their money back from the Gane fight,” said Lewis talking about fighting Miocic.
“I’ve got a lot of people rooting against me, a lot of family members, a lot of haters. I’ve got to use that energy to really push myself forward, so that’s what I’ve been doing,” Lewis spoke on people that have turned their back on him after his title fight defeat.
As far as Stipe Miocic, the greatest UFC heavyweight is coming off a devastating loss against Francis Ngannou. The former champion also is waiting on the sidelines to redeem himself after the loss. Miocic has a record of 20-4-0 in his entire MMA career. Do you think Lewis vs Miocic is the right fight to make next?
