The number 4th ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Islam Makhachev, who is known as the protégé of former UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov is targeted to the number 3rd ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Beneil Dariush in a five-round main event on February 26th UFC Fight Night. This news is revealed by the ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.

Makhachev is on a nine-fight winning streak in the division with his latest win coming against Dan Hooker at UFC 267. He is one of the strongest contenders for the UFC Lightweight title but former interim Lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje secured the title shot ahead of him with his exciting win against Michael Chandler at UFC 268.

Beneil Dariush on the other hand is on a seven-fight win streak in the Lightweight division with his latest win coming against former interim Lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson at UFC 262. Dariush is also in the title contention and he will also look forward to finally fighting for the title with a win in this fight.

The Lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira is booked to face the number one ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Dustin Poirier at UFC 269, and this fight between Makhachev and Dariush is going to be a big fight in the Lightweight division after the title fight.

All three surging contenders of the Lightweight division, Justin Gaethje, Islam Makhachev, and Beneil Dariush shares the same manager, Ali Abdelaziz and he already revealed that Gaethje will be fighting for the title next and Makhachev is going to fight Dariush.

In his recent interview with MMA Junkie, Abdelaziz said, “Justin Gaethje is going to be next, Probably, Beneil Dariush is going to fight Islam Makhachev. Probably, you are going to see Beneil Dariush fight Islam Makhachev and Justin Gaethje is going to fight for the title probably in May.”

This fight makes things much clear in the Lightweight division and this one is going to be a really interesting one as the two longest active winning streaks of the Lightweight division are going to face each other.
