“It’s kind of inevitable”- Dan Hooker offers his take on a third fight between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker
Dan Hooker- Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya UFC 271
UFC lightweight-turned-featherweight Dan Hooker must’ve been the happiest man on Earth when he saw his longtime friend and teammate Israel Adesanya winning his fourth title defence against the latter’s arch-nemesis in Robert Whittaker in a rematch. The first fight happened back in 2019 when Whittaker was dethroned by Adesanya to declare the new UFC middleweight champion and therefore the latter finished the former via second-round knockout. In the second fight, Whittaker made some really good adjustments to win some rounds, yet fell short via unanimous decision.
Hooker is currently coming off a first-round submission loss to potential lightweight title contender Islam Makhachev back at UFC 267 and therefore decided to go down back to featherweight. There he has a fight in March at Fight Night London in the O2 Arena where he will face another promising featherweight prospect in Arnold Allen. Hooker, a City Kickboxing product, is one of the most exciting fighters on the entire roster and his significant wins include Paul Felder, Al Iaquinta, James Vick, Nasrat Haqparast, Jim Miller, Gilbert Burns, Mark Diakiese, Ross Pearson and many more.
Dan Hooker thinks his “brother” Adesanya will fight Whittaker for a trilogy
Hooker came for an interview at Submission Radio to talk about his upcoming fight against Arnold Allen and more so, talk about the UFC 271 fight card and a possibility of a third fight between his Adesanya and Whittaker.
“You know Israel’s my brother and then outside of that I want nothing but success for Rob I think he’s hit you know that’s it you know, Israel is the champ and then I feel like Rob is head and shoulders over everyone else in the division… I feel like Rob is got such a long career ahead of him yeah it’s kind of inevitable that fight will take place the third time,” said and concluded Hooker.
What do you make of Hooker’s prediction on a trilogy between Adesanya and Whittaker? Do you think the third fight is a must for the reasons that many people believe Whittaker won the second fight irrespective of the official decision? Or do you feel just like Hooker that Whittaker is just levels above the rest of the division even though Adesanya won over him for the second time straight? Who do you think is the next opponent for Hooker though?
