John McCarthy took a sly dig at former UFC heavyweight Travis Browne. The fighter pay issue in the UFC never dies down. It has been all over the Internet in recent times as a lot of fighters have begun speaking openly about the same. YouTube star Jake Paul fanned the flames a couple of times as well.

However, Travis Browne recently downplayed the seriousness of the issue and called those who wanted a higher pay – “whiny little b******”. These comments didn’t sit well with the majority of the fighters as expected, and Bellator MMA broadcaster and MMA referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy weighed in on the same.

McCarthy claimed that Browne might not feel the pangs of the issue since his wife Ronda Rousey has made a boatload of cash during her professional MMA and wrestling career. McCarthy also stated that no amount is ever enough for a fighter, and hence the promoter must at least try finding a ‘mid-point’.

McCarthy was quoted as saying, “First off, Travis is sitting in a different position. Because he’s got a wife that made a lot of money. Good job, Travis! Very nice. You don’t have to worry about what he made. Look at what she made!

He continued, “Here’s the point. The promoter is always going to try to get the fighter for the least amount possible. That’s his job. That’s how he makes money. The fighter is always going to want more. That’s their job, to try to get more. You’ve got to meet somewhere in the middle.” [via The Mirror]

As McCarthy pointed out, Rousey is one of the, if not the richest female mixed martial artists. She was the Conor McGregor of the UFC before the Irishman was.

Travis Browne and Ronda Rousey have been married since August 2017. While Browne has never competed since July 2017, Ronda Rousey retired from mixed martial arts and joined WWE. She is currently expecting a child, and will soon be a mother. It is worth noting that Rousey hasn’t wrestled professionally since 2019.
