UFC’s Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, has had an uphill battle in establishing his reputation as the no.1 pound for pound fighter in the UFC. Despite being already engaged to fight Leon Edwards later on this year, the “Nigerian Nightmare” has set his eyes on a much bigger fish for him, fighting Boxing Superstar Canelo Alvarez.

The 170 pound champ has expressed that after, what will be his, 6th title defence he wants to definitely take on Canelo in the field of action. This could be possible considering the emerging trend of combat sports, that could help the blending of Boxing and MMA.

Errol Spence, recently in an interview with The Schmo, shared his thoughts on Usman wanting to take on Alvarez.

Errol supportive of Usman, says, “Yeah definitely. Usman tough, he’s very physical. He has trained with my coach before he got a little stand-up game. I seen him knockout a few guys with his straight right.” He even thinks that he would fare much better than when Conor McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather.

When asked about how the fight result could pan out, Errol tells The Schmo, “I don’t know, but I know Usman more than I know Canelo so I will be on Usman side for that fight.”

The Nigerian champion has expressed his intention to fight Alvarez, while he is still in his prime. This seems like Usman’s way to to etch his name in history, considering both of them are reigning champions and are famed in their respective fields.

This endeavor that is to take outside the UFC promotion requires Dana White’s approval. However Dana has blatantly shot down Usman vs. Alvarez. In an interview with Sky Sports, Dana says, “I think that (Usman) serious about it. He shouldn’t be serious about it, I don’t like that fight at all.”

He goes on to tell, “Everything about it is horrible. Usman is not a boxer. Canelo is probably the best guy out there right now. It’s a stupid fight that makes no sense.”

Until the details are hashed out, Kamaru will have to concentrate solely on his upcoming bout with Leon Edwards.
