“It is a little disappointing” – Kevin Lee on never getting to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov
Kevin Lee and Khabib Nurmagomedov
Kevin Lee regrets never fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov in his career. The lightweight is set to return to the Octagon after over a year. He will be taking on Daniel Rodriguez in the main card of UFC Vegas 35. Lee who is still just 28, has still a long way to go in his MMA career.
In the recent episode of MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Kevin Lee expressed his disappointment at never getting to fight UFC lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov. In fact, there was a time when Lee called out Khabib before both were big names, especially Khabib. But, none of Lee’s callouts came to fruition. It fell on deaf ears.
In the interview with Helwani, Lee claimed that Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz was a smart man, and kept Khabib on the right path, avoiding collision course with Lee himself. He finally joked that he would take on Khabib in a soccer match, if he could never get to fight him inside the Octagon.
“They got a good manager, you know?” – Kevin Lee
Kevin Lee was quoted as saying, “It’s a little disappointing, you know? Sometimes, I say a little too much…They got a good manager, you know? Ali [Abdelaziz] is a smart man. He’s seen me around a lot, and they did their best to keep him on the right path. So, it is a little disappointing that the fight never happened with me and Khabib, if he doesn’t come back.” [h/t firstsportz.com]
Lee continued, “Maybe I might pick up a soccer ball…And we can have a little one-on-one match, one of these days, who knows? [h/t firstsportz.com]
Kevin Lee is currently ranked number 11 in the lightweight rankings. His last fight was against Charles Oliveira, the current lightweight champion in March 2020. He lost the fight via. submission. ‘The Motown Phenom’ will be looking forward to returning with a bang, against the tough Daniel Rodriguez.
Khabib, on the other hand, was recently believed to have signed a professional football contract with Russian third-tier club FC Legion Dynamo. In a recent media interaction with RT Sport, Khabib confirmed that he hasn’t signed the contract, but will take his place in the team anytime. He pointed out flying very often as the reason for the same.
