“I see a guy who is frustrated…Drugs is a hell of a thing” – Kevin Lee talks about Conor McGregor’s downfall

Kevin Lee and Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is in uncharted territory right now. The Irishman’s loss at UFC 264 resulted in his first-ever two-fight skid in his MMA career. Never had he ever lost two fights in a row. To top it both the losses were against the same opponent- Dustin Poirier. He now finds himself ranked number 9 in the lightweight rankings, and is also serving a medical suspension (ankle surgery recovery)which will see him out until the second week of January.

Following his loss, Conor McGregor has also been acting too cranky and disrespectful. He has been going on a ‘tweet-and-delete’ hitting out at several members of the MMA community. It has resulted in a lot of his own fans turn up against him.

In a recent interview with James Lynch, number 11 ranked lightweight Kevin Lee spoke about McGregor’s downfall, before going on to discuss how a fight against him would pan out. Lee pointed out that McGregor’s Twitter antics have been going out of control, attributing the same to drugs.

Kevin Lee was quoted as saying, “I see a guy who is very frustrated and kind of staying with the same old stick too, you know? It’s not showing any growth in your game or who you are as a person; when you just go back and rely on the same old things that kinda like brought him up a little bit. But it’s going to a different level. I don’t know drugs is a hell of a thing. Drugs really kinda take you out of it. I don’t know, best of luck to him now. Seems like he is going through a rough time, it happens.” [h/t FirstSportz.com]

Talking about how a fight against the Irishman would go, Lee said, “I don’t think he would be able to handle my pressure and the wrestling. Technically I’m too many steps ahead of him, when it comes to grappling…I am a lot more well-rounded.” [h/t FirstSportz.com]

Lee is set to take on Daniel Rodriguez next. He was initially scheduled to fight Sean Brady at UFC 264 in July, but Brady pulled out due to a foot infection and was replaced by Rodriguez. The pair are set to fight at UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs Chikadze on the 28th of August, next weekend.

Lee hasn’t fought in more than 17 months. His last fight was against current lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, way back in March 2020 at a UFC Fight Night event he and Oliveira headlined. Oliveira submitted Lee in the third round of the fight. Lee will be looking forward to getting back to winning ways when he faces Rodriguez who has never been finished in his entire career.
