Khamzat Chimaev- Gilbert Burns
Looks like UFC Welterweight Khamzat Chimaev has to look no more for an easy fight based on his level since he is in negotiations with the UFC to finalise fighting former welterweight title challenger, as reported by RT Sport News. It’s highly unlikely Chimaev will turn down this fight, but let’s see how this deal goes. Chimaev just came off a fresh win at UFC 267 after a year layoff when he defeated the very tough Li Jingliang in the first-round submission of rare naked choke.
Chimaev has been 10-0 in his overall, MMA record, 4-0 in the UFC. So far, Chimaev has been hit only twice amongst all the fights, the least someone has been hit in the first 4 fights in UFC. Chimaev’s rise to fame came from July last year when he took his second fight just 10 days after his first fight and yet managed to dominate in and finish both the fights.

Gilbert Burns, the potential opponent for Khamzat Chimaev, is a former UFC-welterweight title challenger who is coming off a win, notable unanimous decision victory against another former title challenger in Stephen Thompson at UFC 264. Burns transition from fighting in lightweight to welterweight has proved him the best decision so far. Other notable victories for Burns include Damian Maia, Tyron Woodley, Gunnar Nelson and Alex Oliveira.
Both Chimaev and Burns are aiming to get a title shot-second for Burns- as soon as possible against the reigning, defending welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. This can prove to be the toughest challenge for Chimaev so far, but Gilbert also needs to be very cautious because Chimaev has the talent to always bring something to the table we’ve never seen before. Also, this is a huge opportunity for Chimaev as if he wins, he improves his rankings drastically by 8 positions.
What do you think of this fight? Is it too quick to be happening to Chimaev or is he ready for the elite of the elite competition? Also, if this fight is booked successfully, who do you think wins?
