Ex-UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is wildly infamous for his quirky style and take on matters. He is also among the most violent finishers in the history of MMA. Jackson saw much success during his UFC and PRIDE FC days. However, they did not come with some hook-and-crook methods from the fighter.
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has strolled kickboxing and wrestling lanes as well, leading up to his UFC tenure. He touted All-State honors for Raleigh-Egypt High School at the ripe age of 17. One thing many fighters find rudimentary in any discipline of fight is sure footing. In a recent sit-down with Manel Kape, ‘Rampage’ reiterated how he got around the pitfalls of slippery feet.
What I do is probably illegal in America, …I can say what I do because I don’t do it no more…You know, I first started noticing the canvas were slippery even when I was fighting in Japan. You know what I used to do? I used to go to the, uh, sports store, and I used to get this resin for handball. What I did was I put it on the bottom of my foot, then I stepped in a plastic bag, and then I put my socks over it, because in Japan they don’t have a commission, so it wasn’t against the rules where they probably frown upon it.

With how UFC/MMA Unified rulesets go, lubricants for the sole of the feet or footwear are not allowed. Think of wobbly-feet Brian Ortega and Johnny Walker and how they tumble! But there was no rule not to have add-ons in socks.
Jackson would line up the resin in his plastic under the socks. When he would open it, the plastic would come off with the sock, but the soles remained extra sticky. This helped him stay more sure-footed on the Octagon canvas.

The results speak for themselves; Rampage and his aggressive fighting style punctuated an iconic body slam KO over Ricardo Arona at PRIDE FC. The fighter would often choose style statements and sure domination rather than function like a decision-machine in the UFC.

When tensions erupted, nobody expected Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson not to explode. The American light heavyweight has always been known for his temper. His door-break shtick and other gimmicks made him wildly famous. It would be a common notion not to mess with Rampage at all cost. But one particular UFC entity did not give a hoot about ruffling his feathers a little bit.

Quinton Jackson and Jason Miller have had a strong relation over the years. However, things have tended to boil over for extended periods of time and/or in fight camps. ‘Mayhem’ Miller was a particularly robust trainer, with Frank Mir claiming to have had trained to near-death. A hot-tempered Jackson, 46, got into the thick of it with Miller sometimes.
Me and Mayhem, we got in a real fight. We got in a few real fights…Yeah. f——ng real fights…It was weeks of training camp with Tito Ortiz, and we were driving every day, like a buddy comedy…

Rampage has always had a chip on his shoulder. The latter phase of his UFC run did not go that smooth. His PPV points deal fell through in a massive cut, and much of his timely payment from the UFC 71 Reebok UFC Fight Kit Sponsorship didn’t make it home.
While road trips offer their charm, being couped up in vans during extended camps did not do them any favors in the long run. Stuffy camps and jolly-good trips did not help the generic giant and powerhouse with 73″ reach!
