Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor is right around the corner. The Irish UFC star is making a comeback after almost three years of being away from the octagon. However, it is an interesting dynamic because people are more excited to see McGregor fight rather than him fight Chandler. And that is exactly what former champion, Daniel Cormier highlighted during his recent conversation with Ben Askren.
Daniel Cormier recently sat down for a conversation with Olympic wrestler Ben Askren on his YouTube channel. DC said that Michael Chandler is highly unlikely to get PPV revenue for this fight because it is McGregor who will be the biggest attraction of the event.
I don't know why you would give pay-per-view points to someone that's not going to drive the sales. And this is not me hating on Mike. He's not driving the sales on this one. When you fight Conor McGregor, Conor's driving the sales, he's obviously going to be a part of the pay-per-view and part of the business.Daniel Cormier via his YouTube channel
Cormier also highlighted that ‘The Notorious’ is likely making the decisions for this fight. He expressed the common sentiment that ultimately this fight feels like it is about McGregor. However, he also did not deny Michael Chandler’s credibility as a compelling opponent in this fight. Chandler ranks #7 in the UFC’s lightweight division rankings.
What DC said is not unreasonable. Eight of the top ten biggest-selling PPV fights in UFC history are Conor McGregor fights. McGregor has made the promotion incredible amounts of money and put the UFC on a global scale unlike anybody has ever done.
Michael Bisping says Conor McGregor is too rich to make a successful comeback
Michael Bisping has spoken about Conor McGregor’s anticipated comeback many times on his YouTube channel. Now that Dana White confirmed the Irish superstar’s comeback, Bisping had something interesting to say. According to Bisping, McGregor has been away too long and is too “stinking rich” to have a laser focus on making a successful comeback.
Although Bisping gave the first two rounds to Conor McGregor, he believes McGregor’s dreaded third-round fatigue will catch up to him.
He has got a very good chance in rounds 1 and 2 after that it’s got to go downhill I think, I believe.Michael Bisping via his YouTube channel
Conor McGregor has had surgery and a titanium plate running across his shin. McGregor’s training partners give him an easy win over Chandler in their upcoming matchup. So it will be interesting to see what happens this July at UFC 303.
