Paulo Costa might have created a lot of drama regarding his weight cut in his last fight against Marvin Vettori but his manager believes the fighter is not leaving the 185-lb division.

Paulo Costa, the one-time middleweight title contender was matched up against Marvin Vettori in 2021 for a middleweight bout. The Brazilian was slammed for his unprofessional behavior as he turned up to the fight 20 pounds overweight. Vettori agreed to fight Costa at 195-pounds and later even went on to win the fight.

UFC was not happy with Costa’s professionalism and president Dana White even said that Paulo won’t be fighting at 185-lb ever again. However, in an interview with Sherdog, Paulo’s manager said his fighter won’t be leaving the middleweight division anytime soon. “There is no doubt his next fight will take place in the middleweight division,” said Wallid talking to Sherdog.

“The Eraser” has been in the UFC since 2017 and has shown a great display of fighting. Costa was only 6 fights into the UFC and was offered a title shot against the middleweight king Israel Adesanya in 2020 at UFC 253. The fighter lost via KO and then fought Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 41 which also lead to a defeat.

Paulo has a record of 13-2-0 in his entire career and according to Paulo’s manager, the two defeats were a result of overtraining from the Brazilian. “We will fight whoever the UFC decides. I keep believing that ‘Borrachinha’ will be the champion. He just has to train right. His biggest problem is that he trains too much. If he trains correctly, I have no doubt no one in that division can beat him,” said Wallid about Paulo.

Where do you think Paulo Costa will be fighting next? In the middleweight or light heavyweight division?
