Mark Hunt mandated to cover the UFC’s legal costs amounting to a whopping $388,235!

Mark Hunt

Mark Hunt, the former UFC heavyweight fighter who completed his contract in December 2018 and has not competed inside the octagon since was ordered by The United States District Court in Nevada to pay attorney fees and costs amounting to $388,235.

According to a new report from Combat Sports Law, the United States District Court in Nevada ruled in favor of the UFC on that motion:

Plaintiff Mark Hunt filed this lawsuit against Zuffa, LLC d/b/a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), its president Dana White, and mixed-martial-arts fighter Brock Lesnar, alleging that UFC violated state and federal law by manipulating its own drug-testing requirements to allow select fighters to use performance-enhancing drugs. After prevailing on several motions to dismiss and a motion for summary judgment, UFC moves for its attorneys’ fees and costs under the prevailing-party provision in the 2016 Promotional and Ancillary Rights Agreement, which governed the parties’ professional relationship…. “

While Hunt concedes that UFC may seek attorneys’ fees and costs for defending itself against the full complement of Hunt’s claims under the explicit terms of the parties’ agreement, he argues that UFC’s fee request is premature and unreasonable and seeks costs disallowed under federal law. Because I find that UFC is entitled to attorneys’ fees and costs under the parties’ agreement, its request is reasonable, and its motion is ripe, I grant UFC’s motion in its entirety.”

IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that defendant UFC’s renewed motion for attorneys’ fees and costs [ECF No. 193] is GRANTED. Defendants are awarded $301,792.50 in attorneys’ fees and $86,442.72 in costs, for a total of $388,235.22, and the Clerk of Court is directed to ENTER JUDGMENT accordingly

This comes after a 4 year-long battle back in 2017 when Hunt had filed a lawsuit against the UFC for letting Brock Lesnar fight under the use of banned substances.

The news of Hunt requiring to pay the UFC left him with a bad taste in his mouth, so he went on to Instagram to offer a deal to Dana to make the whole lawsuit go away.

Mark the super Samoan vs Dana the parasite white Lorenzo Fertita and frank fertita. 5 rounds mma these losers @danawhite frank Fertita Lorenzo Fertita has sucked the life out of so many fighters him and his scum friends -u win I drop the law suit-I win u pay every fighter u have ripped off since @ufc started now who would pay to see that.

All this began back in 2017 when Hunt had filed a lawsuit against the UFC, claiming that the MMA promotion knew Brock Lesnar’s use of banned substances beforehand and still let him get into the ring at UFC 200, which led to a unanimous decision win for Lesnar against Hunt.

However, it was later overturned and changed to a no-contest after it was revealed that the American had tested positive for clomiphene, a drug which had been banned by the UFC, USADA and WADA during a pre-fight drug test. He was later tested positive again for the same after the bout.

In December 2019, Paul Gift reported that the UFC had filed a motion to recover $388K in fees and costs from ‘The Super Samoan’.
