“Everyone saw you cheat”, “You are a champ” – Miesha Tate hits out at Aspen Ladd; Ladd responds
Miesha Tate and Aspen Ladd
Aspen Ladd had her fight against Macy Chiasson at UFC Vegas 38 cancelled after failing to make weight. The fight was set to take place in the main card of the event headlined by Thiago Santos vs Johnny Walker. Initially, weighing-in Ladd came in at almost 142 lbs, more than 6 lbs above the limit. She couldn’t make weight with the use of a towel as well.
Aspen Ladd looked drained and sapped. She could barely stand, and was not able to lift her hands as well while weighing-in. And hence, the fight was scrapped from the card. This was also not the first time Ladd was having trouble with making weight. Who would forget her weigh-in fiasco against Germaine de Randamie two years ago?
In the wake of this former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, who made a return to MMA, earlier this year, branded Ladd a cheat. ‘Cupcake’ went on to state that she came in an lb over despite cheating. It was a quote Tweet to Ladd’s statement following her ‘weight miss’.
“I bet you were every bit of 139” – Miesha Tate to Aspen Ladd
Tate’s Tweet read: “It’s one thing to miss weight, it’s another thing to try and cheat the scale and use every excuse in the book to not weigh in properly. Everyone saw you cheat and still came in a lb over. I bet you were every bit of 139.“
Ladd then replied in the politest way possible. Acknowledging everything Tate has done to the sport of women’s MMA, Ladd maintained that she has had a history of struggles with making weight.
Ladd’s reply read:“U R a champ, a pioneer in mma,I hav a great deal of respect for u.Bottom line is I didn’t make it. there is documented history struggles. 1lb or 10lb the bottom line is I didn’t get it done. taking control to rectify the situation. I will not engage w/ neg this has brought.,“
