“Nobody wants to fight Holly”- Coach Mike Winkeljohn claims Miesha Tate “did not take” Holly Holm fight in October
Miesha Tate and Holly Holm
Miesha Tate made a successful return to the UFC after a gap of almost 5 years. The former women’s bantamweight champion faced Marion Reneau in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Makhachev vs Moises that concluded last month. Tate knocked out Reneau in the final round of the match to script her brilliant comeback to the sport.
With that win, Miesha Tate entered the women’s bantamweight rankings at number 8. Many a talk of Tate fighting her old-rival Holly Holm began doing the rounds. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Holm’s coach Mike Winkeljohn of the Jackson Wink MMA Academy revealed that Tate did not want to fight Holm in October. Holm, in fact, called out Tate following her win over Reneau.
“Miesha Tate said nope, not right now” – Coach Mike Winkeljohn
Coach Mike Winkeljohn was quoted as saying, “Miesha Tate said nope, not right now. So, everybody talks the talk, but honestly, behind the scenes, nobody wants to fight Holly.”
The last time Holm and Tate met, it was UFC 196. Holm was fresh off her earth-shaking victory over Ronda Rousey and was also unbeaten in the sport of MMA. She was set to defend her bantamweight belt against Tate. However, Tate put on an absolute clinic, as she submitted Holm in the very last round of the 5-round fight, to win the bantamweight title. Hence, Holm will be out for revenge when the two meet again.
Holm, is coming off a victory over Irene Aldana in October 2020. It has been quite a while since she fought. However, her ranking is still intact. She is ranked number 2 in the women’s bantamweight division. There might be a Holly Holm-Miesha Tate 2 if Tate continues her winning run.
